Dear Friends,

Don’t miss live music at Raven’s this Saturday with the Wizards of Whax and their high-energy show of “No School Rock & Roll”!  We love lead singer Jimmy Murphy, whom many of you will recognize as the front man for the Kamikaze Klones.  The show starts at 8 p.m. and probably won’t end until we have to drag Jimmy off the stage at closing time.

Join us on Monday the 9th as the Denver Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers in what promises to be a spirited contest.  The Broncos will be looking for redemption after last week’s loss.  The Steelers are a formidable opponent, but the game is in Denver and the home field advantage makes a difference.  We’ll have the game on the big screen with stereo sound on our house system.  Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.  Congratulations to Brian who won $55 in last week’s football pool.  See your bartender for details if you’d like to test your prognosticating skills!

It’s hard NOT to talk about beer when you have 24 varieties on tap to choose from, but Raven’s also has a fine wine list for your enjoyment.  One of our favorites is the Peter Lehman shiraz from Australia.  Shiraz is made from the syrah grape; the wine is called syrah globally except in South Africa and Australia. The Lehman vineyards are located in the Barossa Valley on Australia’s southern coast—perhaps the most renowned region in the world for shiraz production.  While syrah is known for its bold, spicy character, Australian shiraz accentuates more fruitful flavors.  The Lehman shiraz is a dark red wine with a strong body that allows it to stand up to aggressively flavored food.  The finish is pleasantly soft, however, like the gentle, lingering kiss of a departing lover.  The classic food pairing for shiraz is with grilled meat.  At Raven’s this could mean a juicy ribeye steak, a charbroiled angus burger, or our delicious sirloin steak sandwich.  This wine will settle in nicely next to our osso bucco.  A less obvious pairing that will surprise and satisfy is with barbecue!  Now, we know you’re already thinking, “There are no barbecued items on Raven’s menu.”  True, BUT we do have two excellent barbecue sauces (one spicy, one sweet), and our kitchen will put them on any menu item at your request.  We think the Amelia Earhardt wings or the chicken breast sandwich are your best bet.

Now, back to beer!  We’re very excited about the upcoming beer tasting and food pairing on Friday the 13th.  From 5 to 7 p.m. a beverage expert from the Stone Brewing Company’s local distributor will be at Raven’s to guide you through their acclaimed line of beers, complete with cheese pairings.  The tour costs a modest $15, and participants will also receive a pint of Stone’s Arrogant Bastard Ale, a souvenir Stone Brewing Company pint glass, and an Arrogant Bastard t-shirt.  Experience is the best teacher, so don’t miss this special opportunity to expand your palate.

Did you know Raven’s has wireless internet?   We have excellent signal strength so you’ll have no problems connecting, and the service is complimentary.  Many of our customers find our relaxed atmosphere perfect for a casual working lunch or on-line afternoon.  Our friendly servers will help you find the nearest electrical outlet!

Thank you again for your patronage of Raven’s Tavern.  We cherish your friendship and the time we spend together.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Dear friends,

This Friday, Nov. 13 Raven’s is excited to host a beer tasting and cheese pairing from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring beers from the Stone Brewing Company of San Diego.  Stone brews Arrogant Bastard which is a favorite among Raven’s staff and customers, so we are anxious to taste some of their other beers.  The tour costs a modest $15, and participants will also receive a pint of Stone’s Arrogant Bastard Ale, a souvenir Stone Brewing Company pint glass, and an Arrogant Bastard t-shirt.

Take a moment and look at the redesigned Raven’s website at http://www.ravenstavern.com/.  Victoria has been hard at work creating our new look, and we think she’s done an excellent job!

Join us at Raven’s on Sunday, Nov. 15 to watch the Broncos try to get back in the win column against the Washington Redskins.  Kickoff is at 11 a.m., and we’ll have the game on our wall-sized big screen.  Congratulations to Bob & Joan who won $80 in last week’s football pool! It was a close contest with the combined score of the Monday night game being the deciding factor.  Bob & Joan were 1 point closer than Brian (our Week 8 winner) and took the purse.

Looking ahead, on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.Raven’s hosts a fundraiser for the Kohn Foundation, an Evergreen-based nonprofit that works to improve living conditions in West End, Grand Bahama Island.  A comprehensive look at their efforts is available at www.thekohnfoundation.org.  On Friday, Nov. 27 Paul Landsittel & the Field Hand Band perform live at Raven’s.  This show starts at 8 p.m. and is a release party for their new CD.

Thanks again for stopping by your friendly mountain tavern.  Our day is always brightened by your visit!

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Dear friends,

Please join us Saturday the 21st for a fundraiser for the Kohn Foundation. This event starts at 2 p.m. and features wine tasting and aura photography.  The Kohn Foundation is an Evergreen-based nonprofit that works to improve living conditions in the village of West End on Grand Bahama Island.  Find out more about their work at
www.thekohnfoundation.org.

Our featured draft beer is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for $3.25 a pint.  Characterized by the citrusy Cascade hop (do we detect a hint of grapefruit?), this versatile beer pairs well with many of our menu items. We suggest trying it with the bruschetta appetizer or a chicken Philly sandwich.

On Sunday the 22nd the Broncos host division rivals San Diego Chargers in a game that might decide who wins the division.  The teams are currently tied atop the AFC West.  Quarterback Kyle Orton’s ankle is hurt and he may not play in this pivotal game.  Can Chris Simms lead the Broncos to victory?  Kickoff is at 2 p.m. and we’ll have the game on the wall-sized big screen. Dan won $40 in the football pool this past weekend.

Please be aware that Raven’s will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving.

Friday the 27th Raven’s hosts a CD release party Paul Landsittel’s “Field Work”.  Paul is bringing a five-piece band to help him perform original compositions from his new recording.  Paul’s sound is based in folk music with some pop and jazz flavor.  Music starts at 8 p.m.

And we have more live music the very next day!  On Saturday the 28th Yarrow joins us for a night of rock’n’roll.  Show starts at 9 p.m.

In this season of counting one’s blessings, we are thankful for your friendship and patronage.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Dear Friends,

Please remember that Raven’s will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving.  Our staff will be spending time with their families, as we hope you will be with yours.  We look forward to seeing you Friday and Saturday for a weekend of live music!

Friday the 27th Raven’s hosts a CD release party Paul Landsittel.  Paul is bringing a five-piece band to help him perform original compositions from his new recording entitled “Field Work”.  Paul’s sound is based in folk music with some pop and jazz flavor.  Music starts at 8 p.m.

And we have more live music the very next day!  On Saturday the 28th Yarrow joins us for a night of rock’n’roll.  Show starts at 9 p.m.

The beverage of choice this week is Raven’s infused spiced rum.  Victoria created a new batch last week that surpasses all previous efforts.  She hasn’t fully disclosed her secret recipe but repeated tastings reveal strong flavors of butterscotch, cocoa and orange balanced with hints of vanilla, cloves and cinnamon.  The best way to tell for sure, of course, is to come in and try it yourself!  We recommend mixing this extraordinary infusion with club soda.  Highly recommended!

Congratulations to Randy who won $45 in last week’s football pool.  He had 12 wins!  The Broncos play the N.Y. Giants on Thanksgiving Day so we’ll have to wait until Sunday, December 6 to watch them again at Raven’s.  The week 12 pool is available and Jeff will score it when he returns from his vacation on Monday.

Looking ahead, on Saturday, December 5 Raven’s is your daytime destination for refreshment during and after the Conifer Day Parade.  Parking goes fast so get here early!  Please join us later that day for some holiday good cheer at our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony (we hope John the bartender will deliver another outstanding invocation) followed by live jazz music from MoDazz.

Please take time to count your many blessings, and have a very happy Thanksgiving,

The staff at Raven’s
