Dear friends,

It’s Oktoberfest at Raven’s, so please join us for a frosty mug of your favorite draft beer to celebrate Bavarian culture!  While we don’t have a true Marzen style, we DO have 24 other beers on tap for you to choose from.  Bartender Jeff recommends the Erdinger Hefeweizen, paired with Raven’s Hemingway mahi-mahi sandwich (with french fries) or a Caesar salad.  Wheat beers originated in Bavaria in the 16th century and the brewery in Erding opened in 1886.  Erding, of course, is just down the road from Munich, where the first Oktoberfest celebrated the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in 1810.  The tradition of drinking the leftover spring beer (called Marzen, after its March brewing date) at harvest-time is certainly much older.  In 2007, 6.94 million liters of beer were served at the Munich Oktoberfest.  We’re not sure if we’ll match those numbers, but we’re willing to try!  Ein prosit!

Bruce introduced a new soup today, and it looks to be another fine addition to our roster.  Be sure to ask your server about the creamy Bacon & Mushroom soup.  And get ready to savor the hint of rosemary! Join us on Fridays between 4 and 7 p.m. throughout the month of October for $2.50 pints of Newcastle brown ale!  Keri-Sue and Jeff will be happy to pour you a cold one!  And what better way to get warmed up for a night at the theater?  Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th are your last opportunities to catch “Nunsense” at the Stage Door.  Show time is 7:30 p.m. each night and tickets and information are available at www.stagedoortheatre.org or 1-800-838-3006.  We’re happy to see you after the show, too!

Can you believe the Rockies are in the playoffs?  Can you believe the Broncos are undefeated?  It boggles the mind, but we’re not complaining.  The Rockies play the Philadelphia Phillies at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.   The Broncos face their toughest challenge yet on Sunday as Tom Brady and the New England Patriots come to Denver.  Join the enthusiastic crowd at Raven’s for the 2 p.m. kickoff and enjoy the game on our wall-sized projection screen.  And you can hang out with bartender Shannon, who is worth a visit by herself! Keep these upcoming events at Raven’s on your calendar!

At 7 p.m. on Saturday the 17th Raven’s hosts the annual Fall Fashion Show.  Clothing lines will be presented by Conifer’s premiere boutique, Look What I Found, and proceeds will benefit the Mountain Peace Shelter and the Mountain Resource Center.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday the 24th we’re hosting a benefit for the Intermountain Human Society, featuring music by Kicked To the Curb.  Animals needing adoption will be here, so if you are thinking about a new dog or cat we strongly urge you to attend.

The month concludes with our weekend-long Halloween celebration.  Kids are welcome Friday, Oct. 30 for a children’s party, complete with a costume contest and a pumpkin-carving contest.   Our stage will be up on Saturday afternoon and early evening for the children’s “costume walk”.  Bring your kids by and let them join the parade, and don’t forget to bring your cameras!  Fun for the grown-ups starts at 7 p.m. with a big-screen showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.   Costumes are encouraged!

Thanks again for your patronage.  We are deeply appreciative of the sense of community and camaraderie you bring to Raven’s.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Dear Friends,

We’re still celebrating Oktoberfest at Raven’s!  This week’s specials celebrate Bavarian culture with two succulent flavors of bratwurst. Diners who like spicy food should ask for the spicy jalapeno cheese and elk brat.  If you prefer a milder yet still flavorful experience, we have a wild game blend that contains buffalo, elk, venison and antelope.  The traditional pairing is with amber lager. Try Raven Lunatic, our house brew, or a Steam Engine lager from Durango.  Pale ales will also fit nicely here.  Why not try a Mirror Pond Pale Ale from Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery?  This beer won the silver medal last month at Denver’s prestigious Great American Beer Festival competition, beating out all but one of the 33 entries in the Classic English Pale Ale category.  The elk & jalapeno brat is spicy enough to pair with a Newcastle brown ale.  You’ll recall “Nooks” are available every Friday this month for $2.50 between 4 and 7 p.m.

Please join us this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, for the Intermountain Humane Society’s fundraising event.  This nonprofit organization from Pine strives to promote a life long bond between people and their pets and to provide care for animals in need.  We think those are worthy goals. The party starts at 11 a.m. and runs ‘til 5 p.m., and features live music by the Kicked To the Curb Band!  IMHS is bringing animals in need of a good home to the party, so please give adopting a new pet your sincere consideration.  In the words of the French author and aviator Antoine de Saint Exupery, "Many have forgotten this truth, but you must not forget it.  You remain responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.”

Halloween is right around the corner!  Have you picked out your costume yet?  Raven’s is buzzing with anticipation of the weekend’s ghoulish events! Bring the kids to Raven’s on Friday, Oct. 30 between 5 and 7 p.m. for a Halloween party that includes a costume contest AND a pumpkin carving contest!  Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each contest will be awarded at 7:30 p.m.  The kids are encouraged to join us again on Saturday the 31st at 5 p.m. to take a stroll down our elevated catwalk and show off their costumes!   Starting at 7 p.m. Raven’s becomes an “adults only” venue with a costume party for the grown-ups.  At 8 p.m. we’ll show the cult classic film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on the wall-sized big screen, singing and dancing is encouraged!  Dare to try the Jello shots!  Stun the judges with your best costume creativity: 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the costume contest will be awarded at 11 p.m.

The undefeated Broncos are idle this weekend.  They return to play Sunday, Nov.1 at 11 a.m. for a home game against the Baltimore Ravens.  Though we like the visitor’s name, we’ll still be rooting for the home team. Join us in watching the game on the wall-sized big screen!  Congrats to Mike Rable for winning last week’s football pool.  If you’d like to participate, ask your friendly Raven’s bartender for details.

Thanks again to all of you for making Raven’s the spot in Conifer to find good friends and share good times!

We look forward to seeing you soon,
